CATS College Canterbury

The first college in the Cats College network of educational institutions, which was opened more than 60 years ago.

This is a place where a student can receive a high-level education and easily enter the best universities in the UK and the world. More than 80% of college graduates enter the leading universities of the country, including Oxbridge.

At Cats College Canterbury, you can get a wide range of qualifications: from GCSE to A level. In addition, it is one of the few educational institutions in the country where you can get an IB degree (International Baccalaureate).

Canterbury is a small student town located 50 minutes from London and close to seaside resorts. It is rightly called the safest university city in the country. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its 1000-year history.

Here students can get acquainted with the ancient Canterbury Cathedral and the 12th century castle.
Canterbury is quickly becoming a center of innovation and modern technology - the largest companies open offices here. Now there are more than 700 of them. This is a great opportunity for students to gain experience and find a decent job.

CATS College Canterbury Study Programs

Cats College Canterbury offers several study programs:

1. A-level – a classic program that provides deep knowledge in the specialty and is considered the best for preparing for university. A student can choose 3-4 subjects depending on the specialization.

  • Requirements for applicants: age from 16, knowledge of English – 5.0 according to IELTS, knowledge of subjects – 5 according to GCSE.
  • The duration of study is 5-6 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September or January.

2. University Foundation Programme (UFP) – a one-year programme for foreigners that helps them adapt to the British educational programme. It is distinguished by its narrow focus – the student receives in-depth knowledge of a specific profession. For each specialisation, a set of disciplines necessary for full preparation is selected.

The programme consists of the following subjects: biology, business, chemistry, computer research, economics, geography, global politics, history, law, mathematics, media, physics, psychology, sociology, fine arts.

  • Requirements for applicants: age – from 17 years, knowledge of English – 5.0 according to IELTS.
  • Duration of study: 3 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September or January.

3. IB Diploma – a program for gifted students. Upon completion, they can receive an international diploma, which is recognized in all countries of the world.

  • Requirements for applicants: age from 16 years, knowledge of English – 5.5 according to IELTS.
  • Duration of study: 6 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September.

4. Pre: Programme – a preparation programme for admission to A-level, IB, Foundation courses.

  • Requirements for applicants: age from 15 years, knowledge of English – 4.0 according to IELTS.
  • Duration of study: 1, 2, 3 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September, January, April.

5. High School Term – a program for foreigners who want to study in the UK.

  • Requirements for applicants: age from 15 years, knowledge of English – 4.0 according to IELTS.
  • Duration of study: 1, 2, 3 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September, January.

6. GCSE – a 2-year curriculum in core subjects of choice. After the exams, the student receives a certificate of incomplete school education in Great Britain and can enter A-level or IB programs.

  • Requirements for applicants: age from 14 years, knowledge of English – 4.0 according to IELTS, high grades over the last 2 years.
  • Duration of study: 4, 5, 6 trimesters.
  • The course starts in September, January, April.

7. Academic English course – designed to improve the level of knowledge of the English language.

  • Admission requirements: age from 16 years, knowledge of English – 3.5 according to IELTS.
  • Duration of study: 1-4 terms.
  • The course starts every week and/or trimester.

Accommodation and meals

Cats College Canterbury students live in modern, comfortable residences in the city centre, close to the River Stour. Cats College Canterbury campuses have received the highest marks from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

For students aged 14-17, the college offers several residences:

Chaucer House is a new boarding house for younger students, located next to the academic building. It includes 82 single rooms with bathrooms, as well as common living rooms, a dining room/kitchen. Students are provided with Wi-Fi and TV, and the rooms are cleaned.

Ethelbert Road includes 10 single rooms with bathrooms and 17 shared rooms with bathrooms. Students can also use a shared kitchen/dining room and Wi-Fi.

Raemore House is a large, cozy house with a garden and a shared living room. It includes 6 single rooms and 6 shared rooms with bathrooms. Students have a kitchen/dining room for their use. They can also use Wi-Fi and TV.

Knights House is a new campus next to the academic building. It includes 32 single rooms and 8 shared rooms with bathrooms. Residents can relax in the common living room. Students have a kitchen/dining room and Wi-Fi.

New Dover Road is the best option for younger students. It has 14 single and 6 shared en-suite rooms. Full catering is available. The campus has a dining hall and Wi-Fi.

Archbishops House is a beautiful Gothic-style campus. It has 11 single and 8 shared en-suite rooms. There is also a kitchen, an outdoor terrace and a dining hall.

For students over 18, the college offers accommodation in:

Marlowe Lodge is located next to the academic building. It offers comfortable en-suite rooms and shared living rooms, Wi-Fi. The campus is cleaned.

St Lawrence House is a new campus that has 20 single en-suite rooms. There is also 1 shared bathroom. There is a dining hall, Wi-Fi, a shared living room and a cafe.

The Lodge is another new campus that has 6 single and 3 shared en-suite rooms. Students can also use a shared living room, kitchen and a cafe.

Cowdrey Place is an option for those who want to live independently. This place is made up of several houses with 17 single rooms and shared bathrooms. There are also shared lounges and a kitchen, and Wi-Fi. Unlike other campuses, Cowdrey Place does not have 24-hour supervision, but support is available if needed.

Ersham Lodge is a comfortable, refurbished campus, comprising 6- and 8-bed en-suite rooms with a shared kitchen/dining room.

Nunnery Fields is suitable accommodation for those who want to live independently. There are 8 single rooms, four with en-suite bathrooms and four with shared bathrooms. Students also have access to 2 kitchens and a shared lounge. The house has a large garden and Wi-Fi. There is a curfew on campuses: on weekdays, students must return by 8pm or 9.30pm, and at weekends by 10pm or 10.30pm (depending on age).

Internet access is via wireless Wi-Fi. Students have access to washing machines and dryers. Students living on campus receive three meals a day in the cafeteria throughout the week. There are also cafes on site. The houses have small kitchens where you can prepare snacks in the evening or on weekends. The academic building can be reached by school bus or bicycle.

Events and sports

Cats College Canterbury offers a wide range of activities for students to develop their skills, entertain them, and help them find new friends.

Sports clubs: basketball, rugby, running, football, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, horse riding, swimming. Gyms are also open.
Art clubs: media club, music and dance clubs, drama club, musical performances, Kent School of Music, art classes, art exhibitions.
Science clubs: science club, Creative Activities and Service (CAS), Spanish club, online university courses, university talks, psychology club, etc.
Those who want to prove themselves can take part in Olympiads and competitions.

Cost of education and living

Tuition fees:

  • A-level, GCSE, Pre-programme, IB, UFP – £26,490 per year or £8,830 per trimester;
  • Additional subject to the A-level programme – £4785 per year or £1595 per term;
  • Accelerated Foundation Programme – £20,580 per year or £10,290 per term;
  • High School Term – £9680 per term.

All courses require a non-refundable £300 deposit and a £2,200 deposit, which is refunded at the end of the year. Senior secondary students pay a reduced deposit of £700.

Accommodation costs:

Full board (includes breakfast, lunch, dinner on weekdays and brunch and dinner on weekends):
  • For a single room with ensuite - £15,285 per year/£5,095 per term
  • Shared bathroom - £10,995 per year/£3,665 per term.

Total tuition and living costs at Cats College Canterbury range from £37,000 to £42,000 per year.
