The OHLA views learning English as a continuous and progressive process rather than a step-by-step exercise. To master English in a shorter time, teachers pay special attention to ensuring that students correctly understand the message and vocabulary in a foreign language.
OHLA uses a skills-based curriculum specifically focused on developing the necessary language skills in six main areas: reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar. The best way to develop these new linguistic skills is the same way we've all learned our native languages, «organically». Languages are not meant to be memorized, rather, these skills need to be practiced and used daily for language acquisition.
To further develop a supportive learning environment, OHLA offers 8 levels of ESL.
Students take an entrance exam on the first day of classes to assess their current language skills. Students are then transferred to the appropriate level of English.
Online pre-testing can be arranged on request.
The average class size is 12 students. However, classes can easily accommodate 15 students. This small group setting maximizes interaction and allows students to receive the personalized attention needed for a successful student-centered curriculum.
On the first day of classes, students take a comprehensive entrance exam and undergo careful orientation. Students will be assigned to English classes based on their test scores.
Each member of the faculty has a bachelor's degree and a TESOL certificate. The school is looking for teachers with international experience, and as such a number of its teachers have previously taught abroad.
Each level lasts 12 weeks and is divided into six two-week stages called «blocks». Students can start learning the language at the beginning of any two-week block (every other Monday). The blocks are designed to be as self-sufficient and non-cumulative as possible, leading to progressive skill development that maximizes learning experience.
