OHLA American Language School

OHLA Is an award-winning English language school founded in 1998 with extensive experience in education. Florida is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the United States. Its beaches attract millions of people from all over the world every year, not to mention world-famous theme parks such as Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Disney and many others. The English School welcomes students from more than 70 countries and offers seven (7) locations throughout the state of Florida, «Sunshine State».

OHLA located in major urban centers in Florida such as Miami, Aventura, Boca Rayton, Orlando, Celebration, Winter Garden and Tampa. It is home to world-renowned theme parks, 663 miles of sandy beaches, and is also the fastest growing state with a population of over 21 million people and 172 nationalities. OHLA is the premier English language school in Florida.

Its English language program is recognized by a number of public and private universities in the United States, and therefore countless OHLA students are moving to undergraduate or graduate programs.

OHLA is one of the most respected schools in the United States. Her mission is to provide a learning environment that challenges students and supports them in achieving language goals for personal or professional growth or in enrolling in an American university.

Qualified teachers aim to create an atmosphere that promotes academic learning and allows students to explore linguistic creativity.

Knowledgeable and committed staff always ensure that students are satisfied with the learning and integrate successfully into the community.

  • OHLA is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of English Language Programs [CEA].
  • OHLA is a full member of EnglishUSA, the American Association for the Accreditation of Intensive English Programs.
  • OHLA is a member of NAFSA and TESOL.
  • All OHLA schools have the right under federal law to admit international students through the Student Information System [SEVIS].

The OHLA views learning English as a continuous and progressive process rather than a step-by-step exercise. To master English in a shorter time, teachers pay special attention to ensuring that students correctly understand the message and vocabulary in a foreign language.

OHLA uses a skills-based curriculum specifically focused on developing the necessary language skills in six main areas: reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar. The best way to develop these new linguistic skills is the same way we've all learned our native languages, «organically». Languages are not meant to be memorized, rather, these skills need to be practiced and used daily for language acquisition.

To further develop a supportive learning environment, OHLA offers 8 levels of ESL.

Students take an entrance exam on the first day of classes to assess their current language skills. Students are then transferred to the appropriate level of English.

Online pre-testing can be arranged on request.

The average class size is 12 students. However, classes can easily accommodate 15 students. This small group setting maximizes interaction and allows students to receive the personalized attention needed for a successful student-centered curriculum.

On the first day of classes, students take a comprehensive entrance exam and undergo careful orientation. Students will be assigned to English classes based on their test scores.

Each member of the faculty has a bachelor's degree and a TESOL certificate. The school is looking for teachers with international experience, and as such a number of its teachers have previously taught abroad.

Each level lasts 12 weeks and is divided into six two-week stages called «blocks». Students can start learning the language at the beginning of any two-week block (every other Monday). The blocks are designed to be as self-sufficient and non-cumulative as possible, leading to progressive skill development that maximizes learning experience.
