Riverstone International School Is a private, independent school for students from pre-kindergarten through high school age. It has more than 370 students from 45+ countries. The boarding school consists of 23 students from 14 countries.
Riverstone International School was founded in 1997 under the name Hidden Springs Community School. The school's mission was to provide students with a quality, independent education focused on engaging and active learning, commitment to the environment, and dedication to the school and local communities.
Located north of Boise, Idaho, Hidden Springs Community School opened its doors with 57 students, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade. Since its opening, the school's dynamic educational environment has continued to evolve.
Riverstone International School is located between the Boise River and Greenbelt in southeast Boise, adjacent to the Idaho Shakespeare Festival venue and the Harris Ranch neighborhood, convenient to travel from Warm Springs Avenue.
On the 14-acre campus, teachers have the opportunity to expand learning beyond classroom walls, and students have plenty of space to relax during recess. Students sketch at the nearby Idaho Shakespeare Festival Preserve, conduct water quality tests on the Boise River, hold classroom discussions outside in the sun, or play football and basketball during recess.
Combining elementary, middle, and high school on the same campus promotes communication between students of all ages, staff, and parents. This close interaction reinforces a sense of community and provides many opportunities for leadership.
The elementary school features an energy efficient design, large classrooms with plenty of natural light, and a two-story atrium that is often used for celebrations, gatherings, and productions. It houses primary school students and school administrative staff.
Middle and high school students move between different classes during the school day. Their buildings include classrooms, a school library, a school-wide science lab, a shared outdoor courtyard known as the «ATV», a recording studio, a student lounge, and a small outdoor stage that is perfect for the band's impromptu performances.
Sports and recreational facilities include Kennedy Gymnasium, tennis courts, a full-size football field, and two playgrounds - one for preschoolers and one for all grades. Students thrive on small classrooms, personal attention, and interesting opportunities.
The school is an expert in International Baccalaureate programs. As Idaho's first IB World School, it is one of 37 schools in the United States eligible to participate in three IB programs (elementary school program, secondary education program, and diploma program). IB's curriculum is query-based, focusing on breadth and depth of knowledge, critical thinking, and the development of the world's citizens.
Experience matters. Each IB World School develops its own curriculum. In addition to a day program for students from pre-kindergarten through high school, Riverstone offers a full boarding program for 30 high school students. It is one of four schools in the United States with a boarding program that offers IB PYP, MYP, and DP.
