Secondary education in Canada

Schools of this country have been among the three best technological and computerized educational institutions of the world

Schools in Canada attract attention from lots of parents across the world. There are a number of objective reasons for this: high level of education, favorable conditions for foreigners, high safety level in the country, available tuition, etc.

Canada invests enormously in the educational sector and has successful development increasing its world ranking every year. For several years, Canadian schools have been among the three most technologically advanced and computerized educational institutions in the world.

Almost all schools in Canada include 12 years of education (in Quebec – 11 years, in Ontario – 13 years).

Students from other countries may enter different programs:

  • several weeks (vacation);
  • 1-2 terms;
  • 1-2 years;
  • 3-4 years.

A popular option is to enter the 12th grade after finishing the 11th grade at your school. The last year of studies will help in adaptation to the foreign education system and getting prepared for entering a higher educational institution.

However, when taking studies for 3-4 years the student won't need to pass a test to prove his/her proficiency in English. This way will give an opportunity to get a diploma of secondary education in Canada and enter higher educational institution without a strain.

Public, catholic and private schools in Canada

Secondary education in Canada is provided by different schools. This country offers a wide range of educational institutions. They differ in ownership form, conditions of students' admission, size, etc.

There are schools for boys, for girls as well as for both genders.

1. Public schools in Canada. Most schools in the country are public. Citizens of Canada study there free of charge, but foreigners have to pay for the studies (starting from 20000 CAD per year).

The education level here is very high as all teachers have to pass certification. This is an excellent choice if you want your child to get used to living in Canada, master the language and find friends in a short time.

Students from abroad live in host families, which constantly keep things under control and make sure that the children feel comfortable to live and study.

2. Catholic schools. They almost do not differ from the public ones, except for several religious subjects in the curriculum. They are also on payment basis for foreigners.

The educational level in such schools is higher as the discipline is very strict there.

3. Private schools in Canada are educational institutions offering education of very high level. They are very demanding to prospective students as every student shall have high grades and correspond to special criteria of a specific school.

These educational institutions are distinguished by a small number of students in classes, have large closed territories, own infrastructure and an extensive selection of programs that allow each student to achieve the best results. Studying at such schools is rather expensive (starting from 50000 CAD per year).

Most private schools are schools with full board. Children live on campuses and are under constant control. There are also private schools in Canada, where foreign students can live in host families. This facilitates adaptation to life in the country and study cultural traditions.

There are a number of boarding schools in Canada that specialize in inviting students from abroad.
These educational institutions have lower requirements to students and the cost of studies is usually less (starting from 30000 CAD per year).

Schools in Canada are a perfect preparation for entering higher educational institutions

Secondary education in Canada is provided on high level in every educational institution. Moreover, many schools participate in the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. These are two special courses for preparing students to enter college or university and are internationally recognized. Two years of study are intensive, when the student receives in-depth academic knowledge in different subjects (mathematics, languages, physics, etc., depending on plans for future studies).

Successful studies under these programs are taken into account at the time of enrollment.
Many schools work closely with colleges and universities. Students get a chance to attract attention of the enrollment board and the best receive offers from universities before graduation.

Studies at secondary schools of Canada give a child in-depth knowledge and a great start. They will be able to develop their strength, prepare for further life and study in the country.
