University of Plymouth

Since its foundation in the 19th century as a Marine College, the University has developed a unique range of disciplinary interests in issues affecting the marine environment and society. Leading education and research in marine biology, oceanography and marine engineering are complemented by maritime themes across the University, including History, English, Education, Architecture and the Built Environment, the Business School, Law, Geography and Psychology. The University has won the Queen's Prize three times, two of which were for the University's strengths in marine research. Interdisciplinary health research includes links between marine biology and the discovery of new antibiotics.

The University of Plymouth is well placed to build on this foundation - given the city's location, history and priorities, cutting-edge education and research facilities and close partnerships with research organisations and industries in Plymouth and overseas. Plymouth is a thriving coastal city in the south-west, one of the most beautiful regions of the UK. Offering the best of city life, with Dartmoor and Cornwall nearby, it’s the perfect place to live and study.

Everything you need is within walking distance of the University of Plymouth campus – from the multi-million pound Drake Circus shopping centre to bars, clubs, restaurants, cinemas and theatres. The city has its own ferry port with regular services to France and Spain, and is just an hour’s drive from Exeter International Airport. The train station is a two-minute walk from the centre, with London reachable in three hours.
