Training programs

International College The University of Sheffield offers several study programmes. They are focused not only on studying core subjects, each course includes classes on the personal development programme. Depending on further plans, students can choose:

International Foundation Year (IFY) is a 2 or 3-semester course that prepares for admission to the University of Sheffield undergraduate programme . You can choose two course tracks:
  1. Business, social sciences and humanities. The course includes compulsory classes (critical reading, academic English, interdisciplinary group challenge). Subject modules: business and management, economics, social sciences, society and environment, law and society.
  2. Science and Technology. Compulsory modules (Academic English, Academic and Laboratory Skills) and subject modules (Chemistry, Physics, Biology).

Pre-Masters is an intensive 2 or 3 term course that prepares students for entry to postgraduate study at the University of Sheffield. There are two tracks to choose from:
  1. Business, Social Sciences and Humanities. Includes compulsory modules (Academic English, Postgraduate Social Sciences, Critical Reading, Research Project Development) and subject modules (Society and Environment, Management, Economics, Information Studies, Law).
  2. Science and Technology. Includes compulsory modules (critical reading, academic English, computational mathematics with MATLAB, laboratory and experimental skills, mathematics, literature review and journal club) and subject modules (science and engineering, programming and statistics, programming and mathematics, bioscience).

English language courses are language courses for those who want to enroll in IFY or Pre-Masters courses, but do not have a sufficient level of English for admission. A special program has been developed for each course, which will help you achieve the necessary progress in the shortest possible time and continue preparing for university admission.

Where can I go after the preparatory programs?

The IFY Business, Social Sciences and Humanities course opens the door to one of the undergraduate degrees available from the Faculty of Social Sciences or the Faculty of Arts and Humanities:

  • BA Accounting & Financial Management;
  • BA Journalism Studies;
  • LLB Law;
  • BSc Mathematics;
  • BA Modern Languages and Cultures;
  • BMus Music;
  • BA Applied Social Sciences;
  • Mplan Urban Studies and Planning etc.

After completing the IFY Science and Engineering course, you will be able to study for an undergraduate degree in one of the many science and engineering majors:

  • MEng Aerospace Engineering;
  • BSc Archaeology;
  • MChem Chemistry;
  • MEng Civil Engineering;
  • BEng Electronics and Computer Engineering;
  • BSc Zoology;
  • MEng Structural Engineering & Architecture;
  • BSc Theoretical Physics etc..

Following the Business, Social Sciences and Humanities Pre-Masters course, students will progress to Masters degrees in a range of areas within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, including the School of Management, the School of Law and the School of Architecture:

  • MSc Data Science;
  • MSc Economics;
  • MSc Archaeological Science;
  • MA Cultural Heritage Management;
  • MSc Finance and Accounting;
  • MA Global Journalism etc.

The Pre-Masters course in Science and Technology will lead to a Master's degree in the University's engineering and science departments:

  • MSc Biological Sciences;
  • MSc Electronic and Electrical Engineering;
  • MMet Advanced Metallurgy;
  • MSc Antimicrobial Resistance;
  • MSc Human Osteology & Funerary Archaeology;
  • MSc Hazards and Resilience etc.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to the IFY course, a student must meet a number of requirements:

In terms of academic knowledge:
  • high grades in the high school diploma;
  • GCSE\IGCSE\Level 0: 5 subject-relevant subjects, grade B or above, new grades 9-6 in English and maths;
  • IB Diploma Programme: 26 points, in dentistry: IB – 30 points, 5 points in chemistry and biology of the highest level.
  • AS Levels: 32 points. For Dentistry: 3 AS grades on the A scale in Chemistry, Biology and other subjects, 1 point in class A/B, and other points within the acceptance limits for transfer to NoS.
  • A Levels: 2 passes in Class C or 3 passes in Class D. For Dentistry: 3*Level A with B grades in Chemistry, Biology and another subject.

In English:
  • for a 3-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in writing, others minimum 4.0);
  • for the 2-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 6.0 (minimum 5.0 in all skills).

Minimum age: 17 years.

To be admitted to the Pre-Masters course, a student must meet the following requirements:

Academic knowledge – hold a recognised degree in a related field.

English language:
  • for a 3-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 5.5 (minimum 5.5 in all skills);
  • for the 2-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in all skills).

Minimum age: 21 years.

For admission to English language courses:

English for IFY:
  • for a 2-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 4.0 (minimum 4.0 in all skills);
  • for 1 semester course: IELTS for UKVI 4.5 (minimum 4.5 in all skills);
  • The academic requirements are the same as for the International Foundation Year.

English for Pre-Masters:
  • for a 2-semester course: IELTS for UKVI 4.5 (minimum 4.5 in all skills);
  • for 1 semester course: IELTS for UKVI 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in all skills).
  • The academic requirements are the same as for the Pre-Masters courses.

Price

International Foundation Year:
  • Business, Social Sciences and Humanities: 2 terms – £15,890, 3 terms – £17,500.
  • Science and Technology: 2 terms – £16,890, 3 terms – £18,150.
  • Science and Technology – Dentistry (3 terms) – £19,950.

Pre-Masters:
  • Business, Social Sciences and Humanities: 2 terms – £16,000, 3 terms – £18,500.
  • Science and Technology: 2 terms – £16,600, 3 terms – £18,850.

English language courses:
  • for International Foundation Year – £4400/semester;
  • for Pre-Masters – £4500/semester.

Accommodation

International College The University of Sheffield offers several accommodation options for its students.

Almost all are accommodated in the student residence St Vincent's Place. This residence is located in the very center of the city, close to the main campus of the university and college. Students are provided with shared apartments or studio apartments. Regardless of the type of room, the student gets a furnished bedroom, a private bathroom, bed linen, kitchen utensils. A shared kitchen, living room, games room, cinema, Wi-Fi, laundry are available for use.

The cost of a room in a shared apartment is £6,634/44 weeks, a studio apartment is £9,410/51 weeks.
It is also possible to live in the Residence Life Mentor.
